About Banaue

One of the most preserved regions of the Philippines, Banaue and its Rice Terraces are a wonderful place to visit if your are looking for genuine sightseeings and true local travel. Sagada, Batad and Baguio are all exceptional in their own way, for the beauty of their landscapes and natural sceneries.

1. Banaue Rice Terraces

Made 2000 years ago by the Ifugao indigenous people, the Banaue Rice Terraces are often referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World, and said to have required as much human work as the Pyramids of Egypt, without the use of any enslaved labor.

Their structure, made with minimal equipment, was be able to provide sustainable farming using an ancient irrigation system that is still performing nowadays in an extraordinary efficient way.

The terraces stand 1500 meters (5000 ft) above sea level. To date, the Ifugaos still follow the traditional farming methods handed down by their ancestors.

2. Batad

Batad is included in the 5 clusters of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras. This site is part of the list of UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage sites.

Its landscape creates perfect symmetry and harmony between its inhabitants and the environment. Because of its remote location, local people were able to preserve their tribal culture and left Batad’s environment untouched by any foreign colonizers.

It is the only structure in the country that shows no foreign influence.

3. Sagada

The province of Sagada is located 140 km (87 miles) from Baguio city.

Famous for its refreshing climate and its Hanging Coffins– an ancient burial method which consist of hanging their funeral caskets on cliffs to help lost ancestors find their way to the afterlife, Sagada has kept its traditions in the present time, when ancient entombment methods are still performed by local citizen.

Sagada is also known for its numerous beautiful caves and majestic waterfalls, accessible by foot, such as Lumiang Cave and Sumaguing Caves.

3. Baguio City

Baguio City is a highly urbanized city and established by the Americans during the 1900.

It has become the center of business, commerce and education in the entire Northern Luzon region and the seat of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Situated at approximately 5,050 feet above sea level, the city enjoys cool climate, thus making it the Summer Capital of the country.

Among interesting activities, the Strawberry Farm and its open fruit picking are a must-see for any traveler in search for an authentic and fun journey.
